Pre-operative preparations
The eyelids and eyelashes should be thoroughly washed with lens cleaning fluid before the operation. Women should avoid eye and face makeup, especially eyelids and eyelashes, on the day of the operation.
A good night’s sleep the night before the operation helps reduce your anxiety during the operation and can be effective in the outcome of the operation. Especially since you may have less sleep the nights after the operation due to pain and burning.
Try to take a shower the night before or the morning of the operation, as you may not be able to shower for a few days after the operation.
If you wear contact lenses before the surgery, do not wear them for 4 weeks in the case of hard contact lenses and 2 weeks in the case of soft contact lenses.
For maximum comfort after the surgery, wear comfortable, strapless clothes and shoes on the day of the surgery.
LASIK, LASEK, and PRK surgeries do not require fasting. Please eat a light meal before your visit.
You will not be able to drive after the surgery. If you are traveling by personal vehicle, be sure to have someone with you. (Do not use a motorcycle under any circumstances).
If you plan to travel after the surgery, be sure to coordinate with your doctor before the surgery.
Postoperative visits are of particular importance, please take your doctor’s instructions seriously.
To facilitate and expedite the filing process, make copies of all your documents (national ID card, doctor’s orders, and all photos) before visiting the center.
Tips during the operation
Your operation is very simple, short, and comfortable. You will not feel any pain during the operation, although you will feel the movement of the doctor’s hand and the contact of the surgical instruments. Everything is provided for your comfort and to perform an ideal operation, and rest assured that most complications can be corrected. So do not let yourself be anxious and focus all your efforts on following the instructions of the medical staff.
In the preparation room (before entering the excimer laser operating room), the eyes are numbed with drops and the skin of the face (around the eyes and nose) is disinfected and prepared. After disinfection, you should not touch this area again.
An important way to overcome anxiety during the operation is to breathe deeply and calmly, as well as relax all the muscles of the body, especially the muscles of the face and eyebrows. Do not clench your teeth and try to swallow saliva regularly. It is very important to keep your shoulder and neck muscles relaxed to allow the doctor to position your head in the right position.
Initially, the surgical site (eyes and face) is covered with a special sterile dressing and you may think that your nose and mouth are blocked, but don’t worry, your breathing is open. If you feel any discomfort, just inform your doctor in a clear voice.
In order not to blink, first, your eyelid is gently opened with the help of a delicate instrument and the eye is washed with a special liquid. Please help your doctor by relaxing your facial muscles. Next, the corneal tissue is removed and after your head is placed in the desired position, the laser beam is radiated. At this stage, a special “swooshing” sound is heard as the laser hits the cornea, which may scare you at first and suddenly force you to move your eyes and head. Therefore, it is necessary to master this unconscious reaction, avoid any eye movement and simply look at the center of the green light. During the laser irradiation, you may feel a slight burning smell, which is normal.
Try to avoid unnecessary head and eye movements during the procedure to get the best results, as this will prolong the procedure.
After the laser is finished, the eye is washed and finally a dressing lens is placed on the cornea, which will be removed a few days later.
(Wishing you a speedy recovery)
